Stomach ulcers also known as peptic ulcers are holes or erosion of the protective lining of the stomach, esophagus or duodenum.

Duodenal ulcers are those that grow in the duodenum or upper part of the small intestine. These are the most common sores.

Abdominal ulcers are the most common stomach ulcers and the second most common.

Esophageal ulcers are formed in the esophagus and are rare. They often occur as a result of alcohol abuse.

Who can be affected by stomach ulcers?
Men are often more affected by stomach ulcers than women. This usually grows between the ages of 40-50. People between the ages of 60-70 are more likely to get stomach ulcers.

What causes stomach ulcers?

Over-the-counter analgesics such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen also exacerbate ulcers. Since the elderly are often affected by arthritis and take aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief, stomach ulcers may develop in older people.
People who smoke a lot may have stomach ulcers.
People who drink excessively tend to develop ulcers
People who take it regularly or for a long time are more likely to get stomach ulcers.

For no apparent reason, people with type A blood are more likely to develop stomach ulcers. People with type O blood often get duodenal ulcers.

How are stomach ulcers diagnosed?
Since the symptoms of a stomach ulcer and a duodenal ulcer are similar, the type of ulcer can be detected by various tests such as barium x-ray which allows your doctor to determine the location, type and size of the ulcer. Other diagnostic tests include gastroscopy or endoscopy in which a tube is inserted down the throat to give a clear view of the inside of the abdomen, stomach, and duodenum. The doctor may also perform a biopsy.
How are stomach ulcers treated?
Over-the-counter antacids containing magnesium trisilicate and aluminum hydroxide can help reduce the amount of acid in the stomach.

Antacids can prevent the absorption of nutrients so you can be exposed to Histamine H2 inhibitors which include drugs such as cimetidine, ranitidine and famotidine. While taking histamine blockers you will be told not to use antacids.

If the wound is caused by a bacterial infection, you may be given a combination of antibiotics such as amoxicillin or tetracycline and metronidazole as well as bismuth and histamine H2 blocker.

We currently ship to U.S. addresses including Alaska, Hawaii and U.S. Territories. We do not ship to PO Boxes/APO/FPO addresses.
